Becoming a captain with "Schippers Start Help"
Never sailed on a ship before and you are going to rent a boat
from us? No sailing experience and you want to learn to sail? Or has
it been a while since the last time you sailed?
Then it is a good idea to make use of our agreements with 'Schippers
Start Help' (SSH), made especially for you.
Professional assistance: exactly as during a skiing holiday
You are accompanied on board by one of the experienced
SSH-instructors, who sails together with you and your company
through one of the most beautiful parts of the Friesian lake
district. Firstly on the way, you will receive an intensive
training, such as during a skiing holiday, however, this time you
will learn how to navigate, to berth, to moor the boat as well as
how to pass bridges and so on.
Overnight stop
You stay overnight on board of your yacht on the commodious SSH
landing stage reserved for you in the water sports center
Mid-Friesland close to the chameleon village* Terherne by the
Sneeker lake.
Learning to sail: theory and practice
For undisturbed holiday pleasure, the security of other water
sportsmen and for the security of all crew members, it is not enough
to only be acquainted with the ship; it is also indispensable to be
familiar with some important rules on the water. Therefore, SSH
offers a short, practice-oriented theoretical course of ± 1 hour in
the cozy SSH accommodation in the water sports center Mid-Friesland.
Safe "on the way"
At the end of this day, you will have learned to sail and you
can be assured that you can fully enjoy the rest of your holidays on
the water.

We send you information via a SSH application form. You directly
enroll at SSH. Thus, we do not function as a mediator. You can call

Yachts4U and safe sailing
We place great value on safe sailing and therefore, we ask for
practical sailing experience. We fully support the Dutch authority's
initiative "Veilig varen doen we samen" ("Safe sailing we do
together").

*Chameleon village is today a
recreational park close to Terherne (Terhorne) and was founded in
1997 in honour of the writer Hotze de Roos, who placed a book series
in such a village. Today's recreational park is modeled on the
books' content.
